LOGAN, Utah – Utah State head volleyball coach
Rob Neilson announced on Thursday the signing of
Myrthe Maring (Groningen, Netherlands/FIU) to the 2022 roster. The addition of Maring brings the 2022 signing class total to six.
Maring, a 6-foot-3 middle blocker, played her freshman campaign at LIU Brooklyn before spending the next three years at FIU. Over the course of her career, Maring appeared in 73 matches, recording 246 kills and 216 total blocks.
"We are excited to have Myrthe join our team this fall," Neilson said. "She is long and athletic, and has passion for competition that Aggie fans will love to watch. She is an ambitious student of the game, and her international experience and perspective will be invaluable to our team culture."
As a senior in 2021, Maring led FIU with 85.0 total blocks and was fourth on the squad with 81 kills. She recorded double-digit blocks twice during the season with 11 against Tarleton State and 10 at Middle Tennessee. In 2020, Maring posted 32 kills with a .144 hitting percentage, three aces, nine digs, three solo block and 19 block assists during the season. As a sophomore in 2019, she recorded 43 kills (0.77 per set), while also hitting .111 for the season. She led the team with 0.93 blocks per set, posting 52 on the year.
During her freshman campaign at LIU Brooklyn in 2018, Maring helped the Blackbirds to a 15-9 overall record, including an impressive 12-2 ledger in Northeast Conference (NEC) play and an appearance in the NEC Tournament semifinals. She finished her freshman year second on the team, and fourth in the NEC, in blocks with 57 (0.98 bps), while also recording 90 total kills (1.55 kps), good enough for sixth on the team.
Maring played her last two seasons of prep volleyball at Half Hollow Hills High School East in Dix Hills, New York. She was a two-year letterwinner for the Thunderbirds, earning all-county as a middle blocker her junior year. Maring was then named MVP as a senior. She played club volleyball for Academy Red 18, reaching the Junior National Championships in back-to-back years.
