• Utah State track and field continues its outdoor season next week at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Qualifying Aggies will compete Wednesday through Saturday, May 25-28.

• Utah State's track and field teams competed at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships last weekend in Clovis, California, as the Aggie men placed fifth with 90 points and the women finished seventh with 53.50 points. The Aggies came away with nine podium finishes across the four-day competition. Junior Camren Todd gave the Aggies their first podium finish as he placed second in the men's 10,000 meters with a time of 31:15.29 on Thursday. On Friday, USU saw five podium finishes on the day, starting with sophomore Kelton Chenworth's performance in the high jump. Chenworth cleared a height of 2.06 meters (6-9) to finish second in the event. Chenworth also registered a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 7.20 meters (23-750). The Aggies then recorded podium finishes in both the men's and women's 3,000-meter steeplechases and shot puts. In the women's shot put, senior Maia Garren secured second place with a throw of 16.50 meters (54-1.75), improving on her career-best mark and still ranking third all-time in program history. On the men's side, sophomore Gavin Beierle registered a throw of 16.97 meters (55-8.25) to place second in the event for the second year in a row. Senior Katie Haviland held on for third place in the women's steeplechase, finishing with a time of 10:12.36. Junior Abby Jensen followed close behind in fifth place with a time of 10:15.68. Jensen now ranks third all-time at USU in the steeplechase. Junior Bailey Brinkerhoff now ranks seventh all-time at USU after finishing eighth in the event with a time of 10:25.75 and senior Mica Rivera placed ninth with a time of 10:25.93 to move to eighth all-time in the event in program history. On the men's side, freshman Max Wehrli and senior Mark Crandall placed third and fourth, respectively. Wehrli recorded the third-best time in program history at 8:43.11, while Crandall put up a time of 8:46.93, which ranks fifth in school history. On the final day of competition, junior Tori Bailey started the day with a third-place finish in the women's discus, recording a throw of 53.68 meters (176-1), which ranks as the second-best all-time discus throw in school history. The men's 4x100-relay team was the next to reach the podium for the Aggies as the quartet of seniors Garen Early and Mikhail Kidd plus juniors Zach Meyer and Dominic Bentil took home third place in the conference with a time of 41.27. In the men's 1,500 meters, sophomore Brennan Benson notched the final podium of USU's weekend, crossing the line in 3:49.23 to finish third. Sophomore Olivia Smith narrowly missed the podium in the women's 400-meter hurdles, coming in fourth in the race with a time of 59.49. Smith now ranks sixth all-time in the event in program history.

• Utah State softball (28-28, 13-11 MW) Utah State softball split its games last week as USU lost at BYU (1-9) before earning the 2-1 (8-0, 8-9, 6-5) series victory at home against San José State. Three Aggies saw time in the circle, combining for a 5.25 ERA. The USU pitching staff allowed 29 hits and 19 earned runs, while striking out 15 batters and walking 12. Senior catcher Gabriella Jimenez led the Aggies at the plate after batting .500 (6-of-12). As a team, Utah State hit .306 (30-of-98), including three doubles and eight home runs. Junior Makenzie Macfarlane led the Aggies defensively with 33 putouts.
