LOGAN, Utah – Utah State softball senior catcher
Gabriella Jimenez has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, May 15. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
It is the second time this year and in her career that Jimenez has been named USU's student-athlete of the week.
With their sponsorship of the Student-Athlete of the Week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.
Jimenez, a Sacramento, California, native, helped Utah State close out its 2022 season with a 2-2 record last week. USU began the week with a 9-1 loss at BYU and then won two of three Mountain West home games against San José State (W, 8-0 (5); L, 8-9; W, 6-5).
Jimenez set the Utah State single-season home run (15) and RBI (49) records after recording three homers and seven RBIs during the week as she batted .500 (6-of-12). She also recorded two doubles, two walks, one stolen base, six runs scored, 15 putouts and three assists.
In the series opener against SJSU, Jimenez went 2-for-3 at the plate, including one double, one home run, four RBIs and two runs scored.
In Game 2, Jimenez went 2-for-3 at the plate, including one home run, one double, one walk, two RBIs and two runs scored.
And in the series finale against the Spartans, Jimenez again was 2-for-3 at the plate, including one home run, one walk, one RBI and two runs scored.

MEN'S TRACK & FIELD – Freshman Max Wehrli (South Weber, Utah) finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:43.11 at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships, held last weekend in Fresno, California. That time ranks third all-time in school history in that event.
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD – Junior Tori Bailey (Herriman, Utah) placed third in the discus with a throw of 53.68 meters (176-1) at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships, held last weekend in Fresno, California. That mark ranks second all-time in school history. Bailey also placed sixth in the hammer with a toss of 57.21 meters (187-8) and ninth in the shot put with a mark of 13.78 meters (45-2.50).
