USAFA, Colo. – Utah State women's tennis officially kicked off its 2022 fall campaign at the ITA Bedford Cup in the Mountains on Thursday night.
 
All eight Aggies played one round of doubles in the first round of the tournament.
 
Graduates Annaliese County and Monique Burton won their first match as a duo with a 7-6 (5) victory over Colorado State senior Radka Buzkova and graduate Zara Lennon. The pair will next face New Mexico State's Lisa Zhu and freshman Anna Pinaieva in the second round of the Alpha bracket.
 
Senior Zeynep Naz Ozturk and sophomore Indya Nespor recorded a dominating 8-2 victory over Idaho State junior Megan Lang-Gold and freshman Stefanya Shalakhova in the Bravo bracket. They move on to face Colorado State graduate Ky Ecton and junior Viktoriya Zhadzinskaya.
 
Redshirt senior Sidnee Lavatai and junior Lisa Küng fell short 8-5 in their match against Boise State senior Ana Conde Vendrell and junior Shauna Hefferman. The duo next takes on Denver freshmen Anastasia Simonov and Caroline Driscoll.
 
All three USU doubles matches in the Alpha and Bravo brackets will begin on Friday, Sept. 16, at 9 a.m.
 
The final Aggie pair of junior Laura Fernanda Eugenio De Hilario and freshman Jade Brilhante lost 8-3 to Air Force freshman Abby Cotuna and senior Shailla Alda in the Charlie bracket. The duo will have a Friday bye before facing Air Force sophomore Maddie Dibble and Idaho State sophomore Olivia Mikkelson on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 9 a.m.
 
Following Friday's round of doubles, Utah State will open singles play with two rounds of action.
