Track & Field’s Peyton Teevens Named America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State track & field junior Peyton Teevens has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Jan. 15. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

It is the first time this season and in her career Teevens has earned America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week accolades.

The native of Pullman, Washington, placed first overall in the pentathlon at the BYU Invitational last weekend with a total of 3,418 points. Teevens recorded first-place finishes in the 800 meters (2:20.90) and the shot put (10.14m/33-3.25), finished second in the 60 meters (9.28), fifth in the high jump (1.59m/5-2.50) and ninth in the long jump (4.75m/15-7.00) during the pentathlon.

Nominees from other sports for USU Student-Athlete of the Week included:

MEN'S BASKETBALL – Graduate forward Taylor Funk (Lancaster, Pennsylvania) helped Utah State to a 1-1 Mountain West record last week with an 83-63 home win against Wyoming and an 85-70 loss at Nevada. Against the Cowboys, Funk led the Aggies with 22 points, to go along with five rebounds, three assists and a block. Against the Wolf Pack, Funk led the team with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds, to go along with two steals and one assist. For the week, Funk averaged 18.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.5 blocks per game, while shooting 52.0 percent (13-of-25) from the field, 46.7 percent (7-of-15) from behind the arc and 100.0 percent (4-of-4) at the free throw line.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL – Senior forward Ashya Klopfenstein (Howe, Indiana) scored 16 points to go along with seven rebounds, one block and one steal in Utah State's 78-58 Mountain West loss at Nevada last weekend. Klopfenstein shot 28.6 percent (2-of-7) from the field and 85.7 percent (12-of-14) from the free throw line.

GYMNASTICS – Senior Sofi Sullivan (Manhattan Beach, California) helped Utah State notch its second-best season-opening score in program history with a 195.800 to place third at the fourth-annual Rio Tinto Best of Utah Meet last weekend in West Valley City, Utah. Sullivan was tabbed the Aggies' MVP of the meet as she tied for fourth on beam with a 9.900. Sixth-ranked Utah won the meet with a 197.750, while No. 20 Southern Utah finished second (196.175) and BYU placed fourth (195.175).

MEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD – Sophomore Marshall Rasmussen (Meridian, Idaho) recorded the sole title for the Aggie men at the BYU Invitational last weekend, winning the triple jump with a mark of 12.35 meters (40-6.25). Rasmussen also placed fifth in the pole vault with a height of 4.78 meters (15-8.25).
