LOGAN, Utah — Utah State Women's tennis coach, Sean McInerney, announces the additions of freshman Magdalena Nunez Pureco and junior transfer Maile Brilhante.
Magdalena (Merdia, Yucatan, Mexico) joins the Aggie squad as a true freshman competing in the 2023 dual match season. Maggie has compiled a 3-5 professional record and has made it to three title finals, taking the J5 Leon Juniors Doubles Title in 2019. Career-high ITF rankings include the 712 spot for the Juniors ranks and a 1,767 Women ranking.
Maggie states that Utah State is the "university of my dreams" because of the facilities and the opportunity for growth in her athletic and educational career.
Maile Brilhante, sister of roster member Jade Brilhante, joins the Aggie family from Pacific University where she had a 4-7 singles record and a 2-1 doubles record. Out of high school, Maile ranked first in the USTA rankings out of Hawaii where she was team captain for three years, state title runner-up, and two-time Big Island Interscholastic Federation singles runner-up. She was named Waiakea High School MVP in 2017, 2018, and 2019 before graduating Summa Cum Laude and Valedictorian in the 2020 class.
Maile chose USU "to be closer to family and compete on the same team as my sister, Jade" she states. Maile and Jade Brilhante are the first sisters to compete on the USU women's tennis team since Amber and Ashley Stuhlmann in 2013-14.
