Utah State Women's Tennis Defeats Western Michigan, 4-3

LINCOLN, Nebraska – Utah State women's tennis defeated Western Michigan, 4-3, on Saturday at Nebraska to start the season with a victory and a 1-0 record. 

The Aggies fell behind in doubles play with losses in the first and second positions. Senior Lisa Küng and graduate student Annaliese County took the third position with a 6-3 win before the Broncos secured the doubles point and an early 1-0 lead. 

Utah State found momentum during singles play as graduate transfer Monique Burton scored a speedy point for the Aggies with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 3-spot to even the score 1-1. Teammate Zeynep Naz Ozturk clinched another point at the first position with a 6-2, 6-4 win to give the Aggies a 2-1 lead. 

Western Michigan received their second and third points at the fifth and sixth positions with both wins coming in three sets, giving them a 3-2 lead. 

Utah State Lisa Küng came back after a 3-6 first set loss to win with back-to-back 6-4 scores which tied up the match, 3-3. 

The match then came down to junior Laura Fernanda Eugenio De Hilario at the four position. Eugenio De Hilario faced a 6-4, 4-6 tie with her opponent entering the third set. After a hard-fought match, Laura won the third set with a final set 6-3 score, earning USU's first win for the dual match season.  

The Aggies turn around to face Nebraska tomorrow, Sunday, January 29, at 9 a.m. (MT) at the Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.
