Mountain West 25th-Year Football Teams
LOGAN, Utah – In celebration of its 25-year anniversary, the Mountain West Conference announced Thursday its top 60 football players in league history. The list includes 25 offensive players, 25 defensive players and 10 specialists.
Three Aggies were among those recognized in quarterback Jordan Love, kick returner Savon Scarver and linebacker Zach Vigil.
Utah State has been a member of the Mountain West for the last 11 seasons as it joined the league prior to the 2013 campaign.
Love, a native of Bakersfield, California (Liberty HS) spent four seasons at Utah State (2016-19) and finished his career 689-of-1,125 (.612) passing for 8,600 yards with 60 touchdowns and 29 interceptions. During his career, he set school records with 9,003 yards of total offense, 12 career 300-yard passing games and four completions of at least 80 yards. He is also second all-time in school history in passing yards, completions and attempts, is tied for second all-time in touchdown passes, and is third all-time in completion percentage.
Love was 21-11 (.656) as Utah State's starting quarterback, which are the second-most wins in school history. During his career, he was named all-Mountain West twice.
During his sophomore season in 2018, Love led Utah State to a school-record-tying 11 wins as the Aggies concluded the season ranked 22nd in the nation. Love helped USU set 36 school records and tied six others that year.
Individually, Love earned second-team all-Mountain West honors in 2018 as he finished the season 267-of-417 (.640) passing for 3,567 yards with 32 touchdowns and six interceptions. He set five single-season school records as a sophomore, including 32 touchdown passes, 3,567 passing yards, seven 300-yard passing games, 234 points responsible for and being named the MW Offensive Player of the Week five times. He also tied the single-season school record with a pair of 400-yard passing games. Furthermore, his 267 completions and 3,630 yards of total offense rank second all-time in school history and his 64.0 completion percentage ranks fourth.
Scarver, a native of Las Vegas, Nevada (Centennial HS) spent five years at Utah State (2017-21) and finished his career tying the NCAA and Mountain West record with seven-career kickoff returns for touchdown, which is also a school record. He finished his career second all-time in school history in kickoff return yards and third all-time in kickoff return average as he returned 107 kicks for 2,935 yards (27.4 ypr).
As a sophomore in 2018, Scarver was named just the third consensus All-American in school history as a returner/all-purpose player and just the 16th in Mountain West history as he returned 22 kickoffs for 742 yards (33.7 ypr) and two touchdowns. In 2018, he led the nation in kickoff returns (33.7 ypr) and tied for second with his two kickoff returns for touchdowns and was named the winner of the Johnny "The Jet" Award as the nation's top return specialist.
Vigil, a native of Clearfield, Utah (Clearfield HS) spent five years at Utah State (2010-14) and was part of the winningest senior class in school history with 37 victories over a four-year period. He finished his career with a school-record 43.5 tackles for loss as part of his 389 total stops, which rank as the fifth-most in school history. He also had 20 career double-digit tackle games, including a career-high 22 stops vs. Air Force, which is the fifth-most tackles in school history and ninth-most in Mountain West history.
During his senior season in 2014, Vigil led Utah State to a 10-4 record, which was its second-most wins in program history at the time. He was named a second-team All-American and the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year as he posted 156 tackles, which ranks fourth all-time in Mountain West and school history. Vigil, who was named the MW Defensive Player of the Week twice during his senior campaign, set the MW single season record with 20.5 tackles for loss.
