LOGAN, Utah – Utah State women's tennis defeated Idaho, 5-2, on Saturday at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club. 

The Aggies took an early lead during doubles play, defeating Idaho at all three doubles positions. At the first position, seniors Monique Burton and Zeynep Naz Ozturk won, 6-4, while junior Lisa Küng and senior Sidnee Lavatai took the No. 2 position with a 6-2 win. On court three, senior Annaliese County and junior Maile Brilhante defeated their opponents in a 6-0 win. 

The momentum carried into singles play as the Aggies took points at the first three positions. 

Burton won the first singles point for Utah State at the third position by taking her match with a 6-1, 6-1 straight-sets finish.  

On court one, Küng took her first set with a 6-4 score and won the second set, 7-5, for the victory. 

Naz Ozturk came to court two and outscored her opponent 6-4 in the first set and 6-1 in the second to clinch the match for Utah State. 

At the fourth position Laura Fernanda Eugenio de Hilario was defeated in straight sets while Indya Nespor lost at the sixth position in the third set with a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-2) score. 

As the final Aggie left playing, Magdalena Nunez Pureco took her first set 7-5 and the second set 6-3 to end the match. 

The Aggies hit the road after a week-long break to play UC San Diego on Wednesday, March 8, and UC Irvine Saturday, March 11, in San Diego, California.
