LOGAN, Utah – Utah State women's tennis player Magdalena Nunez Pureco has been named the Mountain West Women's Freshman Tennis Player of the Week, it was announced by the league Wednesday.
Nunez Pureco went 1-0 in Utah State's match against Idaho on Saturday. Playing at the No. 5 spot in singles competition, the freshman from Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, secured a point for the Aggies by beating her opponent in a straight-sets for a 7-5, 6-3 win.
It is Nunez Pureco's first time receiving the honor from the Mountain West. It is also the first time an Aggie has been named for the award since teammate Sidnee Lavatai in February of 2019.
Utah State women's tennis (3-3, 0-0 MW) continues its regular season next week when the Aggies hit the road after a week-long break to play UC San Diego on Wednesday, March 8, and UC Irvine Saturday, March 11, in San Diego, California.
