BOISE, Idaho – Utah State women's tennis was defeated by San Jose State, 4-1, in its first conference game of the season.
During doubles play on court one, graduate student Monique Burton and junior Lisa Küng posted a 6-1 win over their Spartan opponents. SJSU posted a 6-4 win on court three leaving redshirt-senior Sidnee Lavatai and Senior Zeynep Naz Ozturk the deciding point. After a hard-fought set, court two ended in a 7-6 (5) tiebreaker in favor of the Spartans.
At the first position, Ozturk posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over SJSU's Alba Pedrero Galindo to give the Aggies' their lone point of the day.
Lisa Küng faced former Aggie, Carolina Millan who transferred to San Jose State this past offseason. Millan took the victory on court two, giving the Spartan's their third point of the day.
At the No. 5 spot, freshman Magdalena Nunez Pureco posted a 6-2 first-set win which was matched by her opponent in the second set with a 4-6 loss for Pureco. While in the third set of play, the match was clinched by the Spartans, and Pureco's match was left unfinished.
Utah State (5-6, 0-1 MW) continues Mountain West play in Boise, Idaho, this weekend as it faces Nevada (5-3, 0-0 MW) on Sunday, March 26, at 9 a.m. (MT).
