BOISE, Idaho – Utah State women's tennis lost in a 4-3 heartbreaker to Nevada on Sunday.
Utah State began the day by taking the doubles point via wins on courts one and two. Graduate student Monique Burton and junior Lisa Küng posted a 6-4 win over their Wolfpack opponents at the first position while redshirt senior Sidnee Lavatai and senior Zeynep Naz Ozturk posted a 6-1 victory on court two giving the Aggies a 1-0 lead.
At the No. 5 spot, Nunez Pureco posted a 7-5 first-set victory and then recorded a 6-0 shutout second set.
Graduate student Annaliese County won the fourth position match by winning the first set 6-2 and then came back from a two-point deficit to take the second set in a 7-5 victory.
On court three Burton fought hard to earn the win for the Aggies but fell short with a 6-4, 7-6 (6) tiebreak loss alongside straight-set losses at the top two positions.
Utah State (5-7, 0-2 MW) returns to Boise, Idaho to continue Mountain West play this weekend as they face San Diego State (8-4, 1-0 MW) on Saturday, April 1, at 10 a.m. (MT) and UNLV (9-1, 0-0 MW) on Sunday, April 2, at 9 a.m. (MT).
