LOGAN, Utah – Utah State gymnasts
Brianna Brooks and
Sofi Sullivan are set to compete at the NCAA Regional Championships on Friday, March 31, at noon (MT).
Brooks, a junior from Las Vegas, Nevada, qualified on bars, while Sullivan, a senior from Manhattan Beach, California, qualified on beam. They will compete in Session I of the second round of the Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania) Regional, which will be held at the Petersen Events Center.
The 5-foot-7 Brooks is making her third appearance at regionals. As a sophomore in 2022, she tied for fourth on beam with a personal-best 9.900, which is tied for second all-time for a regional meet, in Session 1 of the second round of the NCAA Norman Regional, where she also tied for 17th on beam (9.800) and tied for 24th on vault (9.725). At the 2021 Salt Lake City NCAA Regional, Brooks tied for 17th on bars (9.775) and tied for 22nd on beam (9.375).
"I am really excited to compete in such a fun environment that has great energy," Brooks said. "The expectations for the meet are to just have fun and do the big gymnastics I know I can do."
Sullivan is making her second appearance at regionals as the 5-4 gymnast tied for 17th on beam with a 9.800 at the 2022 Norman Regional.
"I am super excited to be able to go out and compete again," Sullivan said. My expectations are to just go out and enjoy the experience, have fun and compete how I practice."
Brooks and Sullivan will be rotating with Michigan State's team, which begins the meet on vault.
