BOISE, Idaho – Utah State women's tennis defeated No. 63 Colorado State on Saturday morning in a neutral match at Boise State.
Graduate student Monique Burton and junior Lisa Küng kicked off the day for the Aggies with a doubles victory on court one. However, courts two and three suffered losses which gave the Rams the doubles point.
The Aggies earned four points during singles play which clinched the first conference win for Utah State.
On court six, graduate student Annaliese County started things off with a swift 6-3, 6-2 straight-set win to earn the first point of the day.
The second point came shortly after County's with a 6-4, 6-3 victory for Burton on at the third position.
At the No. 5 spot, freshman Magdalena Nunez Pureco earned her singles match point in a 6-4, 7-5 straight-set win over her Colorado State opponent, leaving junior Lisa Küng in clinching position.
After an up and down first two sets, Küng was left as the only Aggie to play a third set in which she came out victorious with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 win to take the final point of the match and earn the Aggies' first Mountain West win.
Utah State (6-11, 1-6 MW) continues conference play as they face Wyoming (10-9, 5-1 MW) on Sunday, April 16, at 10 a.m.
