LOGAN, Utah – Utah State freshman pitcher
Hailey McLean has been named both the Mountain West Pitcher and Freshman of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
It is McLean's second MW Pitcher and Freshman of the Week honors this season. The Aggies have now won five of the 10 freshmen weekly accolades.
The native of Sparks, Nevada, earned both of Utah State's victories last week in USU's 6-0 win against Colorado State and 8-2 victory over Fresno State.
She logged a team-best 1.17 ERA after pitching a team-high 15.1 innings, while recording a team-best 21 strikeouts and holding opponents to a .193 batting average. McLean also did not give up a run, earned or unearned, in either of her two victories.
The freshman pitched a complete-game shutout in the win against the Rams, recording 12 strikeouts while giving up just three hits in 7.0 innings of work.
McLean came in as a reliever for the win against the Bulldogs, striking out seven batters in 5.2 innings of work. She also struck out two batters in game 1 against Fresno State.
