LOGAN, Utah – Utah State women's tennis defeated No. 72 Fresno State on Saturday morning during their last home game of the season.
Graduate student Monique Burton and junior Lisa Küng kicked off the day for the Aggies with a doubles victory on court one. However, USU suffered losses on courts two and three which gave the Bulldogs the doubles point.
The Aggies earned four points during singles play which clinched Utah State's second conference win.
On court two, Küng started things off with a swift 6-1, 6-4 straight-set win to earn the first point of the day.
Burton tied the match at 2 apiece with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at the third position.
After an up and down first two sets, graduate student Annaliese County was left as the only Aggie to play a third set in which she came out victorious with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win to leave freshman teammate Magdalena Nunez Pureco in a clinch-or-bust situation.
At the No. 5 spot, Nunez Pureco posted a 7-5, 6-3 straight-set win over her Fresno State opponent, clinching USU's second conference win in their final match of the regular season.
Utah State women's tennis (7-13, 2-8 MW) will travel to Las Vegas, Nevada to play in the Mountain West Conference Championship starting on Wednesday, April 26 through Saturday, April 29.
