LOGAN, Utah – A trio of Utah State softball student-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team, it was announced by the organization on Tuesday.

Seniors
Makenzie Macfarlane and
Tyler Thornton, along with freshman
Mia Reynolds, earned the academic distinction. They are just the seventh, eighth and ninth Aggies in program history to earn CSC academic honors, and are the first since Shasta Tyteca was named first-team all-district in 2013.

Macfarlane graduated this spring with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology. She is a four-time USU Joe E. and Elma Whitesides Scholar-Athlete Award recipient, a three-time Mountain West Scholar-Athlete and academic all-MW honoree, and was named a 2021 NFCA/Easton Scholar-Athlete. Macfarlane ranks third in the nation this season in runners caught stealing with 20. She was second on the team with 259 putouts and fourth in assists with 42.

Thornton also graduated this spring with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology. She is a three-time Joe E. and Elma Whitesides Scholar-Athlete Award recipient, and has earned MW Scholar-Athlete, academic all-MW and NFCA/Easton Scholar-Athlete honors twice. Thornton was third on the team in stolen bases (3) and tied for fifth in walks drawn (10).

Reynolds, a graphic design major, is a two-time Joe E. and Elma Whitesides Scholar-Athlete Award recipient, and has also earned academic all-MW, MW Scholar-Athlete and NFCA/Easton Scholar-Athlete honors. Reynolds finished second on the team with 38 strikeouts in 2023, while giving up the least amount of runs in the Aggies' primary pitching rotation (55).
