Great Osobor has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Jan. 14. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
With its sponsorship of the Student-Athlete of the Week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.
The native of Bradford, England, led the Aggies to a 2-0 mark last week with an 83-59 home win against Wyoming and an 87-86 road victory at UNLV.
For the week, he averaged a team-best 22.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game, while adding 3.5 assists, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 steals per game and shooting 65.2 percent (15-of-23) from the field and 93.3 percent (14-of-15) at the free throw line.
Against Wyoming, Osobor had 20 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals, while shooting 81.8 percent (9-of-11) from the field and 100.0 percent (2-of-2) at the charity stripe.
At UNLV, he had 24 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and two blocks, while shooting 50.0 percent (6-of-12) from the field and 92.3 percent (12-of-13) at the free throw line. Osobor knocked down the game-winning free throws with 8.4 seconds remaining to culminate a five-point play at UNLV. He erupted for 20 points and 12 rebounds in the second half against the Rebels.
No. 16 Utah State (16-1, 4-0 MW) returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at New Mexico (14-3, 2-2 MW) in a game that will be nationally televised on Fox Sports 1. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL – Junior guard Cheyenne Stubbs (Bradenton, Florida) led Utah State's scoring efforts in both contests last week as USU lost at New Mexico (71-67) and at Fresno State (90-64). Against the Lobos, she scored a team-high 25 points, to go along with five rebounds, four assists and four steals. She then scored 17 points, to go along with three rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal against the Bulldogs. For the week, Stubbs shot 45.2 percent (14-of-31) from the floor, 35.7 percent (5-of-14) from 3-point range and 69.2 percent (9-of-13) from the charity stripe.
GYMNASTICS – Senior Brianna Brooks (Las Vegas, Nevada) finished second in the all-around with a season-high 38.875 at the Rio Tinto Best of Utah Meet. Brooks also tied for fifth on bars with a season-high 9.875, tied for ninth on beam with a 9.775 and tied for 10th on vault with a season-high-tying 9.750. She also scored a 9.475 on floor. Utah State placed fourth in the meet with a season-high 193.600.
MEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD – Junior Godwin Charles (Lagos, Nigeria) broke the school record in the indoor triple jump with a mark of 15.74 meters (51-7.75) to win the event at the Idaho State-hosted Snake River Open last weekend. That mark leads the Mountain West this season and ranks sixth in the nation. Charles held the previous USU record of 15.69 meters (51-5.75), which he set at the BYU December Invite earlier this season. Charles also took second in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.99 meters (22-11.25).
WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD – Senior Mattie Geddes (Twin Falls, Idaho) won the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:14.04 at the Idaho State-hosted Snake River Open last weekend. That time ranks second in the Mountain West and 47th in the nation. Geddes also helped the Aggies win the 4x400-meter relay title with a time of 3:53.52.
