Utah State Gymnastics Defeats Air Force in Home Opener

LOGAN, Utah — Utah State's gymnastics team posted a 194.950-193.925 home-opening win against Mountain West-foe Air Force here Friday night inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
 
Utah State (2-7, 1-0 MW) began the meet with a season-high 48.950 on vault, followed by a 49.000 on bars, 48.600 on beam and 48.625 on floor. Air Force (0-4, 0-3 MW) scored a 47.900 on vault, a 48.600 on bars, a 48.800 on beam and a 48.625 on floor.
 
Utah State improved to a 15-1 all-time against the Falcons, including a perfect 4-0 record at home.
 
Rotation One – Vault (48.950)
Utah State began the meet with a season-high 48.950 on vault. Topping the event was freshman Nyla Morabito with a career-high 9.850 to place first. Following suit, senior Brianna Brooks and junior Payton Gatzlaff scored a pair of 9.825s, which are season-highs for both, as they tied for second. Graduate student Juliette Boyer scored a season-high of her own with a 9.775 on the event and senior Angel Stuart rounded out the rotation tying her season-high with a 9.675.
 
Rotation Two – Bars (49.000)
Boyer led the Aggies in rotation two with a season-high-tying 9.850 to win the event. Fifth year senior Lexi Aragon tied her career-high with a 9.825 to place second. Sophomore Avery Bibbey and Brooks each scored a 9.800 to tie for fourth as Bibbey's score was a season high. Stuart made her first collegiate bars appearance and tied for seventh with a 9.725.
 
Rotation Three – Beam (48.600)
Utah State headed to beam for the third rotation where freshman Mya Witte lead the event with a career-high 9.825 to tie for second. Junior Dani Kirstine tied her season high with a 9.775 to place fourth and senior Jenna Eagles scored a season-high 9.700 to tie for sixth. Also scoring for the Aggies were Brooks and Aragon who scored a pair of 9.650s.
 
Rotation Four – Floor (48.400)
The Aggies took the floor for the final rotation. Morabito and Evans tied for third with a pair of 9.750s. For Morabito, that score is a season high. Graduate student Alivia Ostendorf and sophomore Marley Peterson each recorded a 9.725, which tied them for fifth on the event.

Utah State is set to host Southern Utah in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum for Spectrum Magic night on Friday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m.
