ERIE, Colo. — Utah State golf shot a 6-under 282 on Tuesday during its final round of the Colorado-hosted Mark Simpson Invitational to finish ninth with a team score of 8-under 856 (285-289-282), which is its season-low 54-hole score.
For Utah State, it is its second-straight top 10 finish as it placed second at the Air Force-hosted Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational earlier this fall.
Utah State shot a 3-under 285 during its first 18 holes and then shot a 1-over 289 during its second round.
Colorado State won the 19-team tournament with a 36-under 828 (282-276-270). Saint Mary's Aidan Lee (66-68-68) and UTEP's Dylan Teeter (69-65-69) both shot par on the first playoff hole and shared medalist honors at 13-under 203.
Senior
Julio Arronte led Utah State as he tied for 18th with a season-low 54-hole score of 5-under 211 (71-71-69). For Arronte, it is his third under-par finish this fall and the seventh of his career. It is also his third top 20 placing this fall and the ninth of his career. Overall, he has now carded six rounds under par this fall and 21 in his career, while posting his second round in the 60s this fall and the ninth of his career as his 3-under 69 during his final round Tuesday is tied for his season low round. In nine rounds this fall, Arronte has yet to shoot over par.
Graduate
John Cook and sophomore
Enrique Karg both tied for 45th at even-par 216. Cook had rounds of 73 and 74 on Monday, before firing a 3-under 69 during his final 18 holes. It was his third round under par this year and the 16th of his career, and his second round in the 60s this fall and the ninth of his career. Karg's best round was during his second 18 holes on Monday as he shot a 2-under 70. He began the tournament with a 2-over 72 and carded an even-par 72 on Tuesday. He has now carded six rounds under par in his career, including two this season.
Graduate
Cole Enlow tied for 53rd at 1-over 217 (70-75-72) and senior
Esteban Jaramillo tied for 58th at 2-over 218 (71-74-73). For Enlow, his 1-over 217 is a 54-hole career low, while his 2-under 70 during his first round is his second-lowest round of his career and his second-ever round under par. For Jaramillo, he now has two rounds under par this year and 21 in his career following his 1-under 71 during his first round.
Utah State will continue with its fall schedule on Monday, Oct. 14, when it competes in the Utah Collegiate in St. George, Utah.
