ST. GEORGE, Utah — Utah State's golf team shot an 18-under 558 (285-273) to finish second at the Utah Collegiate Shootout held here Monday at the Sunbrook Golf Club. Individually, USU had two of the top four golfers in the field.
Utah State has now finished runner-up at a pair of tournaments this fall as it also placed second at the Air Force-hosted Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational with a 5-under 859. Overall, it is the third-straight tournament that USU has shot under par as a team as it carded an 8-under 856 at the Colorado-hosted Mark Simpson Invitational.
Utah Valley won the 36-hole tournament with a 32-under 544, followed by USU. Weber State finished third at 6-under 570 and Southern Utah was fourth at 23-over 599. UVU's Dane Huddleston won medalist honors with a 12-under 132 (64-68).
Graduate
John Cook led Utah State with a career-best second-place finish as he shot an 8-under 136 (71-65). Cook concluded the tournament by carding a career-best 7-under 65 during his final 18 holes. For Cook, it is his second-career top 10 finish. He now has 10 career rounds in the 60s and 18 career rounds under par.
Senior
Julio Arronte finished right behind Cook with a 7-under 137 (71-66) to tie for third. Arronte carded a 6-under 66 during his final 18 holes, which is one shot shy of tying his best collegiate round. For Arronte, it is his sixth-career top 10 finish. He now has 10 career rounds in the 60s and 23 career rounds under par.
Graduate
Cole Enlow posted his first-ever top 10 placing as he tied for 10th at 1-under 143 (70-73) for his first-ever under-par finish. Enlow now has three rounds under par in his career after firing a 2-under 70 during his first 18 holes.
Senior
Esteban Jaramillo finished the tournament tied for 13th at even-par 144 (74-70) for his best placing of the year. His 2-under 70 during his final 18 holes was the 22nd round under par in his career.
Sophomore
Enrique Karg rounded out the scoring for Utah State as he placed 15th at 1-over 145 (73-72), which is his best finish of the season and his fifth-career top 20 placing.
Utah State will conclude its fall schedule on Oct. 25-26, when it competes at the Monterrey Collegiate Classic in Mexico. At last year's Monterrey Collegiate Classic, USU shot a school-record 29-under 835 to win the team title. Arronte, a native of Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico, led the Aggies as he placed second with a career-best 14-under 202.
