Box Score BOULDER, Colorado – In a tough road environment, Utah State women's basketball fell at Colorado, 95-65, on Tuesday night at the CU Events Center.
Freshman guard
Carlie Latta opened the scoring for the Aggies with a 3-pointer that gave USU a 3-2 lead early in the contest. The Buffaloes responded with an 11-0 run, but USU's hot shooting would keep the Aggies close through the first 20 minutes, as Colorado never led by more than 12 in the opening half.
After missing their next four attempts from 3-point range following Latta's opening make, the Aggie offense ignited from deep, connecting on seven of their next eight attempts from deep, including a string of five-consecutive makes from downtown. Freshman guard
Elise Livingston began the 3-point barrage in earnest for Utah State, closely followed by a triple from freshman guard/forward
Taliyah Logwood which brought the Aggies back within five points. Freshman guard
Ava Smith and senior guard
Cheyenne Stubbs then joined the fray with 3-pointers before Logwood hit her second 3 of the game to keep the Aggies within five points. After an 8-1 Colorado pushed the Buffaloes' advantage back to double digits, USU again climbed back via the 3-point line as freshman guard
Denae Skelton and junior guard
Jamisyn Heaton combined for back-to-back triples to cut the deficit. A layup from Stubbs further shrunk Colorado's lead to 46-39 entering halftime.
Utah State shot 42.3 percent (11-of-26) from the field and 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from behind the arc in the first half. The Aggies also shot 75.0 percent (9-of-12) from the free throw line in the opening half, and shot 15-of-22 from the charity stripe over the full game.
In the second half, USU's outside shooting stalled as Colorado went on a 12-1 run to begin the third quarter. As Colorado gained momentum, the Aggies were unable to corral the Buffaloes in the final 20 minutes. Stubbs scored 12 in the fourth quarter to lead Utah State's comeback attempt, but USU was unable to cut into the deficit en route to the 95-65 final.
Stubbs led the Aggies with 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting, including a 4-of-11 mark from deep. Logwood set a new career-high with 12 points off the bench, including shooting 2-of-4 from 3-point range, and also led the Aggies with four steals. Heaton posted a team-high five rebounds, also adding seven points. Junior guard
Mia Tarver chipped in with eight points along with four rebounds and three steals.
Utah State shot 34.3 percent (12-of-35) from 3-point range for the game, their best shooting performance from behind the arc this season, and shot 31.7 percent (19-of-60) overall. The Aggies again won the turnover battle, their fifth-straight game doing so to begin the season, forcing 26 turnovers from the Buffaloes.
