The Collegiate Sports Video Association named Bill Garren, Assistant AD – Video Operations at Utah State University, the 2023-2024 Mountain West Conference Video Coordinator of the Year.

Garren was selected by his peers in the Mountain West to receive the Conference Video Coordinator of the Year honor.  He is now a finalist for the prestigious Bob Matey National Video Coordinator of the Year award, which will be announced at the annual CSVA banquet on May 22nd, 2024 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Bob Matey award is presented to the Video Coordinator who displays innovation, determination, perseverance and technical skill as portrayed by the late Bob Matey, legendary Video Coordinator from Texas A&M.

Garren is in his 18th year as the Director of Video Operations for the Utah State athletics department and was promoted to Assistant Athletics Director in 2016.  He is responsible for managing all aspects of athletic video and editing within the athletics department, which includes training and supervising a staff of student assistants to shoot all the football practices and games along with men's and women's basketball games.  His responsibilities also include the day-to-day operations of the video room, overseeing all of the digital TV needs, overseeing Mountain West Conference live streaming events and assisting with the video needs of Utah State's 16 intercollegiate sports.  Garren also provides technical support and training for coaches and support staff.

This marks the sixth time (2013-2014, 2017-2018, 2020-2021, 2021-2022, 2022-2023, 2023-2024) Garren has been voted Video Coordinator of the Year for the Mountain West Conference, with this being the fourth consecutive year.  He also received Video Coordinator of the Year four consecutive years (2009-2010, 2010-2011, 2011-2012, 2012-2013) when Utah State was a member of the Western Athletic Conference.  All said, Garren has racked up 10 conference awards.  In addition, Garren has been voted as the Mountain West Conference VC Representative for all 12 schools and the Mountain West Conference Co-Op Representative for the national Open Exchange group.

Prior to Utah State, Garren served as the Video Coordinator at Idaho State from 2000 to 2002, before moving to San José State.  He was then an assistant football and track coach at his high school in Montrose, CO in 2003 before spending the 2004 and 2005 seasons as Video Coordinator at Idaho State.

Garren earned a master's degree in athletic administration from Idaho State in 2005.

Garren, who was an all-conference football player at Montrose (CO) High School, played two seasons at Ricks College (currently BYU-Idaho) and then one season at Idaho State before beginning his video career.  He and his wife, Melinda, have three children: Maia (25), Milly (20) and Tyler (15).  Maia was an all-Mountain West thrower and school-record holder in the indoor weight throw on Utah State's track & field team.  Milly is currently a sophomore and thrower on the Utah State Track & Field team.  Tyler is a sophomore in high school and plays baseball for Logan High School.
