MEET NOTES - Utah State Gymnastics Competes in Oklahoma Quad Meet on Friday

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State's gymnastics team continues its 2024 season this weekend as it travels to Norman, Oklahoma, to compete in a quad meet with the No. 1 Sooners, No. 27 BYU and Texas Woman's University on Friday, Feb. 9, at 5:45 p.m. (MT). The meet will be streamed live on ESPN+.
 
Utah State has faced already faced BYU once this season at the Rio Tinto Best of Utah Meet as the Aggies scored a 193.600 and the Cougars scored a 195.775. This will be USU's first meeting against Oklahoma since the 2022 season when it lost to the Sooners 197.900-196.350 at a quad meet hosted by Arizona. The last time USU competed against Texas Woman's was in 2018 when it posted a 195.725-194.925 win against the Pioneers in a quad meet hosted by BYU.

THE COMPETITION
Oklahoma (12-0) is the No. 1 team in the country with an average score of 198.045, which includes a 49.365 average on vault to rank fourth nationally, a 49.590 average on bars to rank first nationally, a 49.560 average on beam to rank first nationally and a 49.530 on floor to rank second nationally.
 
Individually, junior Jordan Bowers is fourth in the nation in the all-around (39.630), tied for first in the nation on bars (9.935), fifth in the nation on beam (9.915) and tied for sixth in the nation on floor (9.935), while senior Katherine LeVasseur is tied for 12th in the nation on vault (9.885).
 
BYU (4-7) is ranked No. 27 in the nation with an average score of 196.075, which includes a 48.970 on vault to rank 32nd in the nation, a 49.105 on bars to rank 23rd in the nation, a 48.965 on beam to rank 26th in the nation and a 49.035 on floor to rank 35th nationally.
 
Individually, freshman Brynlee Andersen is tied for 82nd in the nation on beam (9.820), senior Sydney Benson is tied for 87th in the nation on vault (9.825), sophomore Kylie Eaquinto is tied for 103rd in the nation on bars (9.830) and junior Sophie Dudley is tied for 171st in the nation on floor (9.830).
 
Texas Woman's (3-3) has an average score of 194.100, which ranks 55th in the nation, which includes a 48.688 on vault to rank 53rd, a 48.406 on bars to rank 52nd, a 48.175 on beam to rank 61st and a 48.831 on floor to rank 50th nationally.
 
Individually, senior Steelie King ranks 92nd in the nation in the all-around (38.800) and tied for 175th in the nation on floor (9.825), while senior Kaitlyn Hoiland ranks tied for 123rd in the nation on vault (9.813) and tied for 144th in the nation on bars (9.806), and senior Madeline Gose ranks tied for 160th in the nation on beam (9.769).

UTAH STATE NOTES
Utah State posted a season-high 196.275 in its dual meet loss to Southern Utah last weekend, which was the ninth-best home score in school history and the best under White. USU began the meet with a season-high-tying 48.950 on vault, followed by season-highs of 49.125 on bars, 49.025 on beam and 49.175 on floor.
 
Utah State had four gymnasts honored by the Mountain West for their performances last weekend as senior Brianna Brooks and junior Dani Kirstine were named the Co-Bars Specialist of the Week with matching 9.900s, while graduate senior Lexi Aragon was named the Beam Specialist of the week after scoring a career-high 9.925, and Nyla Morabito was named the Freshman of the Week after scoring a career-high 9.925 on floor and a career-high-tying 9.850 on vault.
 
The Week 5 Road to Nationals rankings has the Aggies at No. 47 with an average score of 194.675. The Aggies are 38th in the nation on bars (48.825), 40th on beam (48.655), 46th on vault (48.785) and 61st on floor (48.410).
 
Individually, senior Brianna Brooks is third in the Mountain West and tied for 95th in the nation in the all-around (38.725), and second in the MW and tied for 82nd in the nation on bars (9.845). Morabito is third in the MW and tied for 144th in the nation on vault (9.805). Senior Lexi Aragon is seventh in the MW and tied for 126th in the nation on beam (9.790). And graduate senior Alivia Ostendorf is seventh in the MW and tied for 216th in the nation on floor (9.810).
