LOGAN, Utah – Utah State women's tennis (4-11, 1-4 MW) won its first conference match by posting a 4-1 win against Air Force (1-12, 0-5 MW) Thursday afternoon at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club.
The Aggies started the doubles portion of the competition with a 6-1 win from senior Lisa Küng and freshman Ana Paula Chavez Sanchez at the No. 2 spot. Graduate senior Zeynep Naz Ozturk and senior Laura Fernanda Eugenio De Hilario clinched the doubles point by posting a 6-4 win at the No. 1 spot.
In the singles play, Hilario won in straight sets at the No. 3 spot (6-2, 6-3), which was quickly followed by Ozturk winning in two sets at the No. 1 spot (6-2, 6-3). The Aggies clinched the match with a three-set win from junior Indya Nespor at the No. 4 spot (5-7, 6-4, 2-1).
The Falcons' only point of the day came from a win at the No. 2 spot over Küng (3-6, 0-6). Freshmen Magdalena Nunez Pureco and Niyati Kukreti matches remained unfinished.
USU will be back in action later this weekend as it is set to host New Mexico on Saturday, March 30, at 11 a.m.
