LOGAN, Utah — After setting the school record in the men's pole vault, Utah State track & field sophomore
Logan Hammer has been named the Mountain West Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
Hammer, a native of Nampa, Idaho, claimed the title in the men's pole vault at the BYU-hosted Robison Invitational by clearing 5.53 meters (18-1.75).
With the mark, Hammer leads the MW in the pole vault this season and is ranked ninth in the nation. That performance is also the fourth-best mark in the history of the MW.
Hammer topped his previous personal best of 5.36 meters (17-7) set at the Beach Invitational earlier this season. That mark ranked third in USU history.
It is the fourth time this year that Hammer has been honored by the conference. During the indoor season, Hammer was named MW Field Athlete of the Week on Feb. 2, after he cleared a conference-leading 5.37 meters (17-7.25) at the USU-hosted Roman Ruiz Speed. The next week, Hammer was named MW Field Athlete of the Week again for winning the pole vault title at the Arkansas-hosted Tyson Invitational where Hammer cleared 5.42 meters (17-9.25) to improve his mark as third-best in USU history. He was also named all-conference at the 2024 MW Indoor Championships for winning the pole vault with a mark of 5.06 meters (16-7.25) in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Utah State returns to action on Thursday through Saturday, May 9-11, at the MW Outdoor Championships in Clovis, California. Fresno State is serving as the host institution.
