FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas — Utah State track & field wrapped up the NCAA West First Rounds with three top 30 finishes on the final day of competitions at John McDonnell Field on Saturday.
"We had a really good meet overall to cap a fantastic season," said
Artie Gulden, USU's director of track & field and cross country.
Junior
Maddie Edwards had the best finish of the day, placing 17th with a time of 58.25 in the women's 400-meter hurdles quarterfinals.
"Maddie ran a real good race today to get 17th," Gulden said. "She's had a phenomenal year."
In the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, freshman
Shelby Jensen took 22nd with a time of 10:32.48, senior
Abby Jensen placed 28th with a time of 10:44.54, senior
Bailey Brinkerhoff-Todd finished 33rd with a time of 10:48.63 and junior
Sammi Lee crossed the finish line at 10:57.44 to take 40th.
"The steeplechasers all competed hard," Gulden said. "The second heat where we had three of the four went out 15 seconds slower through the first mile than the other two heats, but the ladies fought hard and moved up well throughout. Shelby is just getting started for us and has another race left this season at the USATF U20 Championships. Sammi will be back next fall for one last cross country season. We will miss Abby and Bailey. They've given a lot to our program and we are sad to see them leave."
Sophomore
Logan Hammer will compete at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the men's pole vault on Wednesday, June 5, at 6 p.m. MT, in Eugene, Oregon. That day of the championships will be nationally broadcast on ESPNU.
