LOGAN, Utah – Utah State head men's basketball coach Jerrod Calhoun announced on Wednesday the signing of Drake Allen, Tucker Anderson and Braden Housley. Allen has one year of eligibility and will be senior for the Aggies this fall, while Anderson and Housley both have three years of eligibility and will be sophomores heading into the 2024-25 campaign.
"We are thrilled to welcome Drake, Tucker and Braden to the Aggie family," said Calhoun. "Drake is a gifted player and one of the best passing point guards in the country with his ability to make others better. His size and athleticism will help him thrive in our system. We are excited to bring in a quality in-state student-athlete in Drake.
"Tucker brings a unique skillset with his size, athleticism and shot-making ability. He will provide tremendous firepower to our offense, and he fits perfectly into our system of versatile, skilled, multi-positional players.
"Braden is a young, talented guard with tremendous upside. His size and length will allow him to play multiple positions for us. We are excited to add yet another gifted Utah native that really wanted to be an Aggie."
Allen, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound guard joins Utah State after spending his junior season at Utah Valley. During the 2023-24 campaign, Allen averaged 11.9 points, 4.3 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals as he played 29.1 minutes per game. He started 27 of the 30 games he appeared in and scored in double-figures 19 times, including a season-high 20 points against both Carroll College and Tarleton State. He also posted a career high 11 assists against both Stephen F. Austin and Texas Rio Grande Valley and had two-plus steals in 12 games, including a career-high six against Utah Tech.
Overall, Allen shot 44.4 percent (134-of-302) during the season, including 23.2 percent (16-of-69) from 3-point range, and 63.2 percent (72-of-114) from the free throw line.
Allen spent the 2022-23 season at Southern Utah, where he was named to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) All-Newcomer team as he averaged 11.0 points, 3.6 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 29.8 minutes per game. He started all 37 games for the Thunderbirds as a sophomore and shot 49.8 percent (151-of-303), including 35.5 percent (27-of-76) from 3-point range, and 64.5 percent (78-of-121) at the free throw line. He scored in double-figures 22 times during the season, including a career-high 22 points against Northern Arizona and Eastern Kentucky. Allen also posted two double-doubles on the season as he had 10 points and 11 assists against Texas Rio Grande Valley and 10 points and 11 rebounds against Abilene Christian.
Allen began his collegiate career at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah, where he earned National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) second-team All-America honors as he helped the Badgers to a 26-8 record during the 2021-22 season and the team's first appearance at the NJCAA National Tournament in over 50 years. As a freshman, he started all 34 games and averaged 12.8 points and 6.0 assists, which ranked among the top-15 in the nation, to go along with 2.2 steals per outing. During the 2020-21 COVID season at Snow, he averaged 7.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 24 games, while shooting 60.2 percent.
A native of Eagle Mountain, Utah, Allen prepped at Westlake High School, where he played both basketball and baseball.
Anderson, a 6-9, 190-pound wing joins Utah State after spending his freshman season at Central Arkansas where he was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Freshman of the Year. During the 2023-24 campaign, Anderson averaged 14.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.5 blocks in 30.8 minutes per game. He started 29 of the 31 games he appeared in and scored in double-figures 23 times, including a season-high 26 points against Lipscomb. In all, he scored 20-plus points six times during the season.
Overall, Anderson shot 41.5 percent (148-of-357) during the season, including 38.1 percent (75-of-197) from 3-point range, and 81.3 percent (78-of-96) from the free throw line. He finished 14th in the Atlantic Sun Conference in scoring, seventh in 3-pointers made and eighth in free-throw percentage.
Anderson, a native of Centerton, Arkansas, was a McDonald's All-America nominee as a prep star at Bentonville West High School. During his senior season, he was named the Arkansas 6A West Conference Player of the Year as he averaged 23.0 points and 7.0 rebounds. Anderson, who also earned all-state honors as a junior, finished his prep career with a school-record 1,281 points. Following his senior season, he played in the Arkansas High School All-Star Game and was named the Most Valuable Player as he scored 17 points.
His mom, Sheila Anderson, played basketball at Tennessee and won two NCAA National Championships under legendary head coach Pat Summitt.
Housley, a 6-4, 180-pound guard joins Utah State after spending the past two seasons at Southern Utah. As a redshirt freshman during the 2023-24 campaign, Housley was named to the WAC All-Freshman team as he averaged 10.8 points, 3.6 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.6 steals as he played a team-best 34.7 minutes per game. Overall, Housley led SUU in assists (111) and steals (49), which ranked as the sixth- and fifth-most in the conference, respectively.
As a redshirt freshman, Housley started all 31 games he appeared in and scored in double-figures 18 times, including a season-high 23 points against Utah. In all, he scored 20-plus points four times during the year.
Overall, Housley shot 37.7 percent (114-of-302) during the season, including 27.2 percent (41-of-151) from 3-point range, and 62.9 percent (66-of-105) from the free throw line.
A native of Lehi, Utah, Housley prepped at Skyridge High School, where he earned first-team all-region and second-team all-state honors following his senior season as he averaged 16.4 points, 7.1 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game. As a senior, he set the single season school record with 164 assists, while his 127 steals during his prep career is also a school best.
