EUGENE, Oregon — Utah State track & field earned five medals across three events at the USA Track & Field U20 Championships on Wednesday and Thursday at Hayward Field. In all, six Aggies competed across six events for the chance to represent the United States at the World U20 Championships.

"We had a bigger group here at the U20 meet than I've ever brought across a lot of events so that's great for the future of the program," said Artie Gulden, USU's director of track & field and cross country. 

Freshman Shelby Jensen won bronze in both the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:11.65, surpassing the old meet record, and the women's 1,500 meters with a time of 4:32.75. 

"The highlight of the meet for us was Shelby's performance in the steeplechase," Gulden said. "The top two get to represent the USA at the World U20 Championships and she really gave it a go. It was definitely her best steeplechase race of the year to grab third and a performance she should be really proud of."

Freshman Natalie Swain also collected two medals as she took fifth in the women's 1,500 meters with a time of 4:37.92 and sixth in the women's 5,000 meters with a PR time of 16:42.05.

In the women's 5,000 meters, freshman Brie Smith won a medal as she set a personal best with a time of 16:41.32 to take fifth place. 

In the field, freshman Ruby Jordan placed eighth in the women's hammer with a throw of 49.15 meters (161-3) and freshman Breanna Raven took 10th in the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.42 meters (37-5.75).

Freshman Walker Deede finished 10th in the men's javelin with a mark of 57.62 meters (189-0).
