EUGENE, Oregon — Utah State track & field sophomore
Logan Hammer tied for 20th in the men's pole vault at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials on Friday evening at Hayward Field.
Hammer cleared 5.40 meters (17-8.5) on his first attempt to finish in the top 20.
"Really proud of Logan and his performance," said
Artie Gulden, USU's director of track & field and cross country. "The opening height was almost a foot higher than he's ever started and he handled it really well. To get 20th at the Olympic trials as a sophomore is incredible and Logan should be very proud of his performance."
Among current collegiate athletes competing in the event, Hammer tied for seventh.
Former Aggies Chari Hawkins, women's heptathlon, and Dillon Maggard, men's 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters, are still yet to compete. Maggard runs the 10,000 meters this evening at 8:27 p.m. (MT) and the 5,000 meters on Thursday, June 27, while Hawkins' events will occur on Sunday and Monday, June 23-24.
