LOGAN, Utah – The NCAA released its annual Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores on Tuesday and all 16 of Utah State's athletic programs exceeded the 930 four-year benchmark set by the NCAA to qualify for postseason competition.
The Aggies averaged an APR of 978 over all sports during the most recent four-year period, ending with the 2022-23 academic year.
"Our top priority at Utah State University is to provide our student-athletes with the best resources and opportunities for academic success," said USU Vice President and Director of Athletics Diana Sabau. "The latest APR report displays the dedication they apply to their academics, as well as our staff's belief that our academic success is important."
The women's cross country program earned the NCAA's Public Recognition Award with a perfect score of 1,000. Public Recognition Awards are given to teams finishing in the top 10 percent of APR scores within each sport. This marks the second-straight year that the women's cross country team has had an APR of 1,000.
The women's cross country team wasn't alone with that distinction, as men's golf, men's tennis, men's track & field, softball, women's tennis and volleyball each recorded a perfect APR of 1,000. Additionally, women's cross country, men's tennis and women's tennis achieved perfect multi-year APR scores of 1,000 over the past four years.
Aggie women's track & field followed with a score of 994 and soccer had a score of 991. Other programs in the 900s included men's cross country (985), gymnastics (976) and men's basketball (921). Football and women's basketball rounded out the scores for the Aggies, with an 899 and 894, respectively.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester or quarter by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport.
