LOGAN, Utah – Utah State's student-athletes combined to earn 440 total academic awards during the 2023-24 academic year to lead the Mountain West.
In all, Utah State student-athletes led the MW with 249 academic honors and was second in the conference with 191 scholar-athletes.
New Mexico finished second in the MW with 415 total academic honors, followed by Fresno State (359), Colorado State (344), Wyoming (341), Boise State (338), UNLV (296), Nevada (295), San José State (286), San Diego State (200) and Air Force (199).
To qualify for the all-conference academic teams, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and competed in 50 percent of the teams completed varsity contests. Some latitude was permitted to accommodate injured student-athletes. The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the Conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or better.
The women's track & field team led the way for Utah State with 102 honors and was followed by the men's track & field team with 67. Football was third with 51 honors and followed by women's cross country (43), soccer (36), softball (24), gymnastics (23), men's cross country (23), volleyball (16), women's basketball (15), men's basketball (13), women's tennis (12), golf (9) and men's tennis (6).
Utah State's student-athletes traditionally rank among the best in the MW and had one of their best years during the 2023-24 academic calendar, earning a combined grade-point average of 3.38. Just over 76 percent of Utah State student-athletes earned a 3.0 or higher GPA as 54 student-athletes were named to the Dean's List for having at least a 3.5 or higher GPA with 15 or more credit hours.
