LOGAN, Utah – Utah State track and field junior
Logan Hammer has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Jan. 19. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
With their sponsorship of the student-athlete of the week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.
Hammer broke his own school record in the indoor pole vault at the Snake River Open this past weekend, winning the competition with a clearance of 5.55 meters (18-2.5). The Nampa, Idaho, product bested the Idaho State facility record set in 2002. Hammer's performance ranks as the fifth best in the nation this season.

Nominees from other sports for USU Student-Athlete of the Week included:
MEN'S BASKETBALL – Sophomore wing Tucker Anderson (Centerton, Arkansas) scored a team and season-high 19 points and added five rebounds and two assists in Utah State's 65-62 Mountain West loss at UNLV. Against the Rebels, Anderson shot 50.0 percent (6-of-12) from the floor, 50.0 percent (4-of-8) from 3-point range and 50.0 percent (3-of-6) at the free throw line.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL – Senior Cheyenne Stubbs (Bradenton, Florida) led Utah State with 16.5 points across a pair of Mountain West games last week as USU lost at Fresno State (74-54) and against San Diego State (85-66). Against the Bulldogs, Stubbs scored 16 points alongside three rebounds and one steal. Stubbs then scored 17 points against the Aztecs, adding four assists, two rebounds and a steal.
MEN'S TENNIS – Senior Sergi Micó Fenollar (Cocentaina, Spain) led Utah State to a season-opening 7-0 home win against Weber State. Micó Fenollar scored a 6-1 win at the third spot in doubles play alongside sophomore Keanu Rigby and then won at the first position of singles play over WSU's Tristan Sarap, 7-6, 6-3.
WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD – Freshman
Abbie Scott (Rigby, Idaho) took first place in the women's pole vault with a clearance of 4.00 meters (13-1.5) at the Idaho State-hosted Snake River Open last weekend. Her performance moved her from third to second all-time in Utah State history in the event, and is tied for the best mark by any Mountain West pole vaulter this season.
