LOGAN, Utah – Utah State women's tennis opened its 2025 dual match season with a 6-1 home win against Utah Tech on Saturday at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club.
Doubles
Utah State won the doubles point as junior
Olivia Halvorsen and freshman
Maria Paula Ramos Garcia posted a 6-1 win at the first position, while freshmen
Natalie Paterova and
Ana Sabikova recorded a 7-5 win at the third position. At the second position, seniors
Indya Nespor and
Cielo Tapia-Cruz had their match left unfinished at 5-5.
Singles
Utah State claimed five of the six singles matches, including each of the first three. Nespor won in straight sets at the No. 1 spot (6-1, 6-0). Garcia followed with a win in straight sets at the No. 2 spot (6-1, 6-0) and Halvorsen won in straight sets at the No. 4 spot (7-6 (5), 6-4).
Utah Tech's lone win in the match came at No. 2 singles as Mariana Zurita won in straight sets against Sabikova (7-5, 7-5).
Utah State closed out the match with two more victories as Paterova won in straight sets at the No. 6 spot (6-3, 6-0) and sophomore
Niyati Kukreti won in straight sets at the No. 5 spot (6-2, 6-4).

Utah State returns to the court on Friday, Jan. 31, as it plays at Montana State at 10 a.m.
