Utah State Hosts San José State in Homecoming Game

Game will be televised live on CBS Sports Network on Friday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m.

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State (3-3, 1-1 MW) continues Mountain West play this weekend as it hosts San José State (2-4, 1-1 MW) on Friday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network (Xfinity Ch. 269/HD 753, DISH Ch. 158, DirecTV Ch. 221) with Chris Lewis (play-by-play) and Kyle Long (analyst) on the call.

KICKOFF COVERAGE
• Utah State is 58-34-2 (.628) all-time in Homecoming games, including a 2-4 record against San José State. USU is 9-4 (.692) in its last 13 Homecoming games.
 
• Utah State is 3-0 at home this season and has won five straight home games dating back to last year. The last time USU won its first four home games to start a season was 2018 and the last time it won four home games in a year was 2022. Overall, USU is 56-25 (.691) in its last 81 home games and 168-121 (.581) all-time at Maverik Stadium.
 
• Utah State is 56-39 (.589) all-time in Mountain West play, including a 31-18 (.617) home record. USU has the third-best record against MW opponents since it joined the league in 2013. Boise State (83-17) has the best record, while San Diego State (64-33) has the second-best record.    
 
• Utah State first-year head coach Bronco Mendenhall has a 43-14 (.754) Mountain West record over seven seasons at BYU (2005-10), New Mexico (2024) and Utah State (2025-). He ranks fifth all-time in wins and sixth all-time in winning percentage in league history. He was named the MW Coach of the Year at BYU in 2006 and led the Cougars to consecutive MW titles in 2006 and 2007.
 
• Mendenhall owns a 143-91 (.611) career record and has led 16 of his 18 teams to bowl eligibility, which ranks second among active FBS coaches. His 143 career wins rank as the fifth-most among active coaches at the FBS level.
 
• Graduate QB Bryson Barnes is one of 46 FBS players, including one of 15 quarterbacks, to rush for at least six touchdowns this year. In fact, Barnes has more rushing touchdowns (6) than 21 FBS programs this season. The school record for rushing touchdowns in a season by a quarterback is eight.

SERIES vs. SAN JOSÉ STATE
• Utah State and San José State will be meeting for the 43rd time for the fifth-most played series in school history, trailing Utah (113), BYU (91), Colorado State (80) and Wyoming (73).
 
• Utah State trails San José State 20-21-1 in its series, but has won 10 of the last 11 games against the Spartans. In fact, USU had its 10-game winning streak against SJSU snapped in its last meeting as the Spartans posted a 42-21 home win on Oct. 21, 2023. The first game played between the two teams was on Sept. 30, 1940, in Logan, with SJSU winning, 19-0. In fact, SJSU won the first five games played against USU before the Aggies won four straight from 1962-66. USU is 12-8 all-time in home games against SJSU and has won five straight home games in the series. The last time the Spartans won at USU was on Sept. 22, 2007, by a final score of 23-20. 
 
• Utah State has won eight straight games against Hawai'i by an average of 26.4 points. Six of USU's last seven wins in the series have been by at least 20 points and the Aggies have scored at least 35 points in each of their last eight meetings with the Rainbow Warriors.
 
• Utah State has won nine of the last 10 games against San José State and those nine wins have been by an average of 24.9 points. Each of USU's last six wins in the series have been by at least 22 points and the Aggies have scored at least 40 points in six of their last seven meetings with the Spartans.
