LOGAN, Utah – Utah State track and field junior Logan Hammer has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Feb. 16. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
 
With their sponsorship of the student-athlete of the week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.
 
Hammer broke his own school record in the indoor pole vault at the Tyson Invitational this past weekend, placing second in the competition with a clearance of 5.61 meters (18-4.5). Hammer's performance is tied for the sixth best in the nation this season and is the third best in the history of the Mountain West Conference.

Utah State will take a break from competitions next week before heading to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the Mountain West Indoor Championships on Thursday-Saturday, February 27-March 1.

MEN'S BASKETBALL – Graduate guard Drake Allen (Eagle Mountain, Utah) helped Utah State to a 1-1 Mountain West home record last week with a 76-71 win against UNLV and an 82-63 loss to New Mexico. Against the Rebels, Allen had 15 points and three rebounds, shooting 5-of-7 from the floor, 3-of-3 from 3-point range and 2-of-3 at the free throw line. Against the Lobos, he had a team-high 14 points, along with two assists, two blocks and a steal. For the week, Allen averaged 14.5 points, 1.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.0 blocks and 0.5 steals per game, while shooting 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from the field, 85.7 percent (6-of-7) from deep and 60.0 percent (3-of-5) at the free throw line.USUTF_XC, on Facebook at USUTrack and on Instagram at USUTF_XC. MEN'S BASKETBALL – Sophomore guard Mason Falslev (Benson, Utah) helped Utah State to a 1-1 Mountain West record with a 93-85 home win against Colorado State and an 82-79 loss at New Mexico. Against the Rams, Falslev went for 22 points, five rebounds, five assists and a steal, shooting 8-of-14 from the floor, 4-of-6 from 3-point range and 2-of-3 at the free throw line. Against the Lobos, he had 27 points, along with six rebounds, five steals and one assist, shooting 10-of-16 from the field, 4-of-7 from 3-point range and 3-of-3 at the charity stripe. For the week, Falslev averaged 24.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game, while shooting 60.0 percent (18-of-30) from the field, 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from deep and 83.3 percent (5-of-6) at the free throw line.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL – Senior guard Cheyenne Stubbs (Bradenton, Florida) led the Aggies with 18.5 points per game in a pair of Mountain losses at Colorado State (72-54) and at San Diego State (78-63). Against the Rams, Stubbs scored 17 points alongside three rebounds and two assists. Stubbs then scored 20 against the Aztecs shooting 8-of-14 from the field, while adding three rebounds. Stubbs was a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line for the week.
GYMNASTICS – Graduate Brianna Brooks won her fourth beam title this season as she tied for first with a 9.875 against No. 7 California and Texas Woman's at the Metroplex Challenge, held in Fort Worth, Texas. Brooks also scored 9.875 on bars to tie for third and added 9.750 on vault as Utah State scored a season-high 196.475, which is its ninth-best road score in program history, to place second at the meet.
SOFTBALL – Senior infielder Ariel Fifita (San Marcos, California) led Utah State to a 4-1 showing at the Cal Baptist Classic as the Aggies defeated Seattle (W, 1-0) and San Diego (W, 5-3, W, 6-3) and split with California Baptist (W, 7-3, L, 4-6). Fifita began the week by going 0-for-1 with two walks and reached base after being hit by a pitch against Seattle. In the first game against San Diego, she went 1-for-3. In the second, she went 3-for-3 with a run, an RBI, a triple, a home run and a base on balls. In the first game against California Baptist, Fifita went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBIs, a double, a home run and a base on balls. In the second, she went 0-for-2 but had one run scored, two bases on balls and a hit by pitch. In total, Fifita hit .500 (6-for-12) for the week with four runs scored, three RBIs, a double, a triple, two home runs, six bases on balls and two hit by pitches with no strikeouts. She had a .700 on base percentage and a 1.250 slugging percentage. She also recorded 11 putouts with 17 assists.
MEN'S TENNIS – Senior Sergi Micó Fenollar went a perfect 4-0 across doubles and singles play to help Utah State win a pair of home matches against Idaho State (4-3) and San Diego State (4-0). Playing alongside sophomore Keanu Rigby, Micó Fenollar recorded 7-5 and 6-2 wins at the third doubles position against ISU and SDSU, respectively. In singles play against the Bengals, Micó Fenollar posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at the top spot in the lineup. Against the Aztecs, Micó Fenollar delivered the clinching point with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 victory at the No. 1 position.
WOMEN'S TENNIS – Senior Indya Nespor (Encinitas, California) went 2-0 across doubles and singles play to help the Aggies to a 4-3 comeback home victory against Santa Clara. In doubles play, Nespor teamed with fellow senior Cielo Tapia-Cruz to score a 6-2 victory at the second position to clinch the doubles point. Moving to singles action, Nespor began USU's comeback from 3-1 down with a 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 victory at the No. 2 spot.
WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD – Senior Emma Thornley (Layton, Utah) placed 46th in the women's 5,000 meters with a time of 16:13.54 at the Boston University-hosted Valentine Invitational. Her performance moved her into second all-time in Utah State history in the event and is the fastest run by an Aggie since All-American Alisa Nicodemus in 1993.
