RECAPPING THE SAN JOSÉ STATE MEET
Utah State gymnastics won all four event titles and defeated Mountain West-foe San José State 195.125-194.225 at home this past weekend. USU began the meet on the vault and scored 48.375, followed by 48.950 on bars, 48.925 on beam and 48.875 on floor. San José State scored 48.500 on vault, 48.450 on bars, 48.525 on beam and 48.750 on floor.
Sophomore
Nyla Morabito took top honors on vault (9.775) and floor (9.850), while junior
Avery Bibbey claimed the bars title (9.850) and graduate
Brianna Brooks placed first on beam (9.875). Brooks has now claimed 16 event titles in her career, including four on beam. It is her fourth event title this season as she has placed first on bars twice and on beam twice. Morabito now has six career event titles, including four on floor and two on vault. It is her third title on floor this season and first on vault. Bibbey claimed her third career bars title, including her second this season.
Utah State opened the meet with 48.375 on vault. Morabito won the event with 9.775, while senior
Payton Gatzlaff and freshman
Kaylie Medrano tied for third with 9.725. Graduate
Jenna Eagles made her season debut on vault and scored 9.600. Graduate
Angel Stuart scored 9.550 and freshman
Lundyn VanderToolen scored 9.525.
Utah State moved to bars for its second rotation and posted 48.950. USU had the top four scores on the event led by Bibbey who placed first with 9.850. VanderToolen finished second with a career-high-tying 9.825. Senior
Dani Kirstine placed third with 9.800 and Brooks finished fourth with 9.775. Sophomore
Sydney Jelen and freshman
Olivia Orengo both scored 9.700.
Moving to beam for its third rotation, Utah State scored 48.925. Brooks won the event with 9.875 and sophomore
Mya Witte posted a career-high-tying 9.825 to place third. Medrano placed fourth with 9.775. Jelen scored 9.750, Eagles scored 9.700 and Orengo scored 9.675.
Utah State finished the competition with 48.875 on floor. Morabito won her second event title of the night by scoring 9.850, while Medrano placed third with 9.800. Orengo and Stuart both posted 9.750 as that score for Stuart is a season high. Eagles scored 9.725 and sophomore
Isabella Vater scored 9.625.

Utah State is ranked second in the Mountain West and 32nd in the nation with an average team score of 195.130. USU ranks first in the MW and 22nd in the nation on beam (48.920), second in the MW and 29th in the nation on bars (48.915), second in the MW and 54th in the nation on floor (48.580) and third in the MW and 39th in the nation on vault (48.715).

Brianna Brooks ranks second in the MW and 46th in the nation in the all-around (39.100) and tied for second in the MW and 46th in the nation on bars (9.850). Senior
Dani Kirstine ranks tied for second in the MW and 46th in the nation on bars (9.850). Sophomore
Sydney Jelen ranks second in the MW and tied for 58th in the nation on beam (9.840). Sophomore
Nyla Morabito ranks third in the MW and tied for 94th in the nation on vault (9.805).
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
Southern Utah is ranked 28th in the nation with an average team score of 195.300. The Thunderbirds rank 24th in the nation on vault (48.895), 29th in the nation on bars (48.915), 36th in the nation on beam (48.645) and 39th in the nation on floor (48.845).
Individually, sophomore Niya Randolph is tied for 59th in the nation in the all-around (38.980), 113th in the nation on vault (9.795) and tied for 160th on beam (9.765). Senior Ellie Cacciola is tied for 140th in the nation on floor (9.810).
SERIES HISTORY
Southern Utah leads the all-time series against Utah State, 61-57, including a 24-18 record at home. The two programs met earlier this year in Logan with SUU posting a 195.000-194.150 win. In the last meeting between the two teams in Cedar City on Jan. 29, 2024, Utah State posted a 195.375-195.075 win.
