REWRITING THE RECORD BOOK
Hammer, who holds the USU outdoor pole vault record, made Aggie history by clearing 5.50 meters (18-0.5) at the BYU Indoor Invitational on January 11, setting the Utah State indoor pole vault record. His mark bested the previous record of 5.45 meters (17-10.5), which was set by Lance White in 1994 and matched by Mark Calvin in 1998. Hammer broke his own record the following week by clearing 5.55 meters (18-2.5) at the Snake River Open on Jan. 17. At the Roman Ruiz Speed and Power Invite on Feb. 1, Hammer broke both his own record and the George Nelson Fieldhouse record with his mark of 5.60 meters (18-4.5). On February 15, the Nampa, Idaho, product cleared 5.61 meters (18-4.75) at the Tyson Invitational to break the school record for a fourth time and to position himself as the seventh-ranked men's pole vaulter in the country entering the national championships.

AGGIES AT THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Hammer became the first Utah State athlete to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships since 2018. That year, the USU men finished tied for 28th with eight points, their best team finish since 1977. The DMR team of Dillon Maggard, Clay Lambourne, Jordan Beutler and Brady Martin earned first-team All-American honors by placing fifth with a school-record time of 9:32.31 that still stands today. Maggard added an individual first-team All-American honor by finishing fifth in the 3,000 meters in a time of 8:06.69, while Lambourne ran the 800 meters in 1:48.30 to finish 10th and claim second-team All-American honors.

USU's best-ever finish at the indoor national championships came in 1975, when future Olympian Mark Enyeart won the individual title in the 880-yard run to lead the Aggies into a tie for 14th. Enyeart's title is the only indoor national championship in school history.

AWARDS SEASON
Hammer won MW Men's Field Athlete of the Week in back-to-back weeks on January 14 and January 21. The reigning outdoor pole vault All-American is the first Utah State track and field athlete to earn six or more MW weekly accolades since Maggard earned nine from 2017-18.

LAST MEET
Utah State concluded its indoor season by capturing two gold medals and nine podium finishes at the 2025 Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico, from February 27-March 1. The USU men finished third out of seven schools with 109 points and the women placed eighth out of 11 teams with 43 points. Aggie athletes had 16 performances from the three-day meet that ranked in the top 10 all-time in Utah State history. Hammer won his second-straight Mountain West title in the men's pole vault with a clearance of 5.52 meters (18-1.25) and sophomore Landon Bott claimed his first individual conference title by winning the men's 800 meters in 1:52.38.
