VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia – Utah State track and field junior Logan Hammer finished sixth in the men's pole vault with a clearance of 5.61 meters (18-4.75) to earn first-team All-American honors at the 2025 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships held in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on Friday afternoon.

"Logan had a great day and vaulted really well," said Artie Gulden, USU's director of track & field and cross country. "We're super proud of him. It's a special thing to win an NCAA trophy. He and Erik (Rasmussen) make a great team and I hope they take some time to really enjoy what happened today."

With his performance, Hammer became the first Aggie to earn individual first-team All-American accolades since Dillon Maggard earned the honors in the 3,000 meters in 2018. The Nampa, Idaho, native's mark also matched his own school record, which he set at the Tyson Invitational on February 15.

Hammer cleared his first two bars of 5.36 meters (17-7) and 5.46 meters (17-11) on the first attempt. The next height of 5.56 meters (18-3) was much more challenging, but the reigning outdoor All-American was able to clear the bar on his third and final attempt. Hammer's record-tying jump came on his second attempt, securing the tiebreaker over Virginia Tech's Maddox Hamm and Illinois's Cody Johnston.

Duke's Simen Guttormsen won the individual title with a clearance of 5.71 meters (18-8.75). His older brother, Sondre Guttormsen, won consecutive titles in 2022 and 2023 while representing Princeton. South Florida's Kobe Babin placed second and Akron's Hunter Garretson, who also won the NCAA Elite 90 award, finished third with matching clearances of 5.66 meters (18-6.75).

Hammer's efforts made him the third Utah State men's pole vaulter to win indoor All-American honors, joining Mark Calvin in 1998 and Lance White in 1994. On the women's side, Shae Jones-Bair claimed back-to-back accolades in 1998 and 1999, and Sonia Grabowska earned her All-American award in 2001.

By finishing in sixth place, Hammer earned three team points for Utah State, the Aggies' first points at the indoor national championships since 2018. The Aggies currently sit tied for 23rd in the team competition, with Oklahoma State leading the way after the championships' first day.
