Box Score LOGAN, Utah – Utah State women's tennis began Mountain West play with a 4-1 home loss to San José State here inside the Sports Academy & Racquet Club on Friday. USU is now 5-6 on the spring season.
 
Doubles
San José State claimed the doubles point with wins at the first and third position. Junior Olivia Halvorsen and sophomore Niyati Kukreti lost their match at the first position 6-3, while freshmen Natalie Paterova and Maria Paula Ramos Garcia lost at the third position 6-4. Senior Indya Nespor and junior Cielo Tapia-Cruz had their match at the second position left unfinished as the duo was leading 5-4.
 
Singles
Utah State's lone point was at No. 3 singles as Kukreti posted a win at the No. 4 spot (5-7, 6-3, 6-0). Halvorsen lost her match at the No. 1 spot (6-1, 6-4) to give San José State a 2-0 lead. Kukreti then won her match to get USU within 2-1. SJSU clinched the match by winning the next two contests at the second and fifth positions to record the victory as Nespor lost at the No. 2 spot (6-3, 6-3) and Ramos Garcia lost at the No. 5 spot (6-3, 6-3). Paterova had her match at the No. 3 spot left unfinished with the freshman leading in the third set (7-6, (7-5), 4-6, 6-5). At the No. 6 spot, freshman Ana Sabikova had her match left unfinished in the first set with her trailing 5-2.

Utah State returns to the court on Sunday, March 16, as it hosts Mountain West-foe Fresno State (8-4, 0-0) at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club at 11 a.m.
