LA JOLLA, California — Utah State's golf team shot a 2-over 290 and moved from 11th place to third following the second round of the UC San Diego Invitational held here Monday at storied Torrey Pines Golf Course.
 
After carding a 21-over 309 during its first 18 holes on Sunday, Utah State tied for the best round of the day on Monday with its 2-over 290 to put itself in contention heading into the final round on Tuesday at 23-over 599 (309-290).
 
Sacramento State is in first place at 17-over 593 (303-290), five shots ahead of second place Arkansas State (598, +22) and six shots in front of USU. Arkansas State's Thomas Schmidt is the individual leader at 5-under 139 (71-68) and five shots ahead of second place.
 
Senior Esteban Jaramillo led Utah State as he shot a 1-under 71 on Monday for his fifth round under par this season and the 24th of his career. Jaramillo began the day tied for 14th and finished tied for third at 2-over 146 (75-71).
 
Graduate John Cook also made a big move during his second round as he shot an even par 72 and is currently tied for ninth at 5-over 149 (77-72). Cook began the day tied for 32nd.
 
Senior Julio Arronte shot a 2-over 74 during his second round and heads into his final 18 holes tied for 30th at 8-over 152 (78-74). Arronte was tied for 42nd following his first round.
 
Graduate Cole Enlow is tied for 30th at 8-over 152 (79-73) after carding a 1-over 73 on Monday. He began the day tied for 57th.
 
Sophomore Enrique Karg is tied for 87th at 17-over 161 (81-79).
 
The tournament will conclude on Tuesday with the final 18 holes beginning at 8 a.m. (MT).
