MARICPOA, Arizona — Utah State's golf team shot a 2-under 286 in its first round of the Wyoming-hosted Cowboy Classic held here at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club on Monday and was unable to finish its second round due to darkness.
 
Following the first round, Utah State was tied for 12th place in the 23-team field.
 
Iowa State leads the field at 17-under 271 (283-285) and the Cyclones Luke Gutschewski is in first place individually after carding an 8-under 64 during his first round.
 
Junior Esteban Jaramillo shot 3-under 69 during his first 18 holes for Utah State and was tied for 12th. Sophomore Enrique Karg carded a 2-under 70 and was tied for 22nd place following his first 18 holes. Graduate Cole Enlow was tied for 75th at 1-over 73. Graduate John Cook was tied for 81st after shooting a 2-over 74. Senior Julio Arronte was tied for 89th after shooting a 3-over 75.
 
Jaramillo's 3-under 69 is tied for his lowest round this season and has two rounds in the 60s and six rounds under par this year. For his career, he has now carded 11 rounds in the 60s and 25 rounds under par. For Karg, his opening round 70 gives him nine-career rounds under par, including four this year.
 
Teams will finish their second round Tuesday morning, before concluding the tournament with their final 18 holes later in the day.
