LAS VEGAS – Utah State women's tennis captured sets at four matches in singles play but ultimately fell at UNLV, 4-1, on Sunday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
 
Doubles
Seniors Indya Nespor and Cielo Tapia-Cruz led the Aggies in doubles play, opening the match with a 6-1 win at the top position in the lineup. The Rebels responded with wins at each of the second and third positions, however, to secure the doubles point and open up a 1-0 lead.
 
Singles
UNLV further staked claim to the match with straight-sets wins at the third and fifth positions of singles play to go up 3-0. At the remaining courts, the Aggies fought back, capturing at least a set at each position. At the top spot, Nespor completed a 2-0 day with a 6-4, 6-4 victory to put USU on the board. At the No. 2 position, sophomore Niyati Kukreti took the opening set, 6-2, before her Rebel opponent responded to take the match in three sets and provide the clinching point for UNLV. At the time the match was clinched, freshman Maria Paula Ramos Garcia had taken her opening set at No. 6 singles, 6-4, and was in a second-set tiebreak before the match was abandoned. Freshman Natalie Paterova had also bounced back to take the second set at the fourth position, 6-4, before her match was also left unfinished.
