LAS VEGAS – Utah State women's tennis fell short in the opening round of the Mountain West Tournament on Wednesday, falling to No. 6-seeded San José State, 4-0, at the Darling Tennis Center. The Aggies finished the season with a 5-16 overall record.
Doubles
The Spartans took control with doubles victories at the second and third positions to take a 1-0 lead to begin the match. SJSU also led, 5-3, at the first position at the time the point was clinched.
Singles
The Aggies fought to rally in singles play but were unable to pull closer to San José State prior to the Spartans clinching the match with wins at the second, fourth and fifth spots in the lineup. At the third position, sophomore
Niyati Kukreti took the opening set, 6-4, and had barely begun the third set before the match was abandoned. Freshman
Kylee Sperry also led deep in the second set, 5-3, before her match was also left unfinished before a possible third set was reached.
