Utah State Has 163 Winter and Spring Sport Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-Mountain West Honors

LOGAN, Utah – The Mountain West announced its all-academic teams Wednesday for its winter and spring sports and Utah State had 163 student-athletes recognized, the second-most in the conference.
 
Of its 163 academic All-MW selections, Utah State had 54 student-athletes from women's track & field honored, along with 42 from men's track & field, 16 from softball, 13 from gymnastics, 10 from women's basketball, nine from men's basketball, eight from women's tennis, seven from men's tennis and four from men's golf.
 
Three programs – men's basketball, men's track & field and women's track & field – had the most honorees within its sport in the MW, while women's tennis tied for the most honorees. Furthermore, gymnastics ranked second in the league, while softball and men's tennis both tied for the second-most selections. Women's basketball tied for the third-most selections within the conference for its sport and golf had the fourth-most.
 
New Mexico led the MW with 183 all-academic honorees from winter/spring sports, followed by Utah State (163), Fresno State (132), Colorado State (130), UNLV (114), San José State (106), San Diego State (105), Boise State (101), Air Force (94), Nevada (94) and Wyoming (91).
 
Twenty-four of Utah State's 163 student-athletes from its winter/spring sports to earn academic All-MW honors carried a 4.00 grade point average, including 10 from men's track & field, nine from women's track & field, two each from women's basketball and gymnastics, and one from softball.
 
Men's track & field student-athletes honored include juniors Logan Garnica (psychology), Ernest Green (electrical engineering), Sam Green (electrical engineering) and Drew Hogan (computer engineering), sophomores Joshua Armstrong (kinesiology), Carson Coleman (electrical engineering) and Kace Jones (psychology), and freshmen Britton Austin (economics), Ethan Peterson (exploratory) and Taite Priestley (social work).
 
Women's track & field student-athletes with a 4.00 GPA include graduates Hannah Davidson (master of public health) and Melissa Navarro (master of public health), senior Emma Thornley (kinesiology), junior Alison Richter (kinesiology), sophomore Breanna Raven (kinesiology), and freshmen Jocelyn Capener (exploratory), Gabi Fenn (mechanical engineering), Natalie Hadlock (marketing) and Reagan Trulson (mathematics).
 
Women's basketball student-athletes with a 4.00 GPA were freshmen Denae Skelton (elementary education) and Ava Smith (kinesiology) and the gymnasts included graduate Brianna Brooks (master of sports management) and freshman Olivia Orengo (journalism and communications). Softball's student-athlete with a 4.00 GPA was freshman Faith Kroening (finance).
 
To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.
