LOGAN, Utah – Utah State University Athletics announced the addition of Joe Summers as associate athletics director for name, image and likeness (NIL).
Summers will play a pivotal role in the athletics department, leading initiatives that empower student-athletes to build their brands, develop business acumen and maximize NIL opportunities. His responsibilities include managing NIL platforms, delivering educational programming and cultivating relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including coaches, compliance staff, donors, sponsors and multimedia partners.
He will oversee all NIL-related operations, from developing educational resources and analyzing transaction data to coordinating mentorship programs and ensuring compliance with NCAA, state and institutional regulations. Summers will align NIL efforts with the university's mission while staying informed on evolving legislative and industry trends.
"This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me to return to Utah State and give back to an athletics department that gave me so much," Summers said. "I'm proud to have been raised in this community, proud to have played here, and I love USU. I look forward to building an NIL program that helps retain championship-level student-athletes, recruits the next great group of Aggie leaders, strengthens our ties to the community and reflects the spirit of Aggie pride. Go Aggies!"
Before returning to Utah State, Summers founded Onbase, a full-service remote licensing agency that helped brands break into collegiate and professional sports licensing, while also capitalizing on NIL opportunities.
He was also the founder of Jumpshot, where he worked for nearly three years before launching Onbase. The company was created to simplify and scale collegiate and professional sports licensing, with software that enabled companies to unlock new revenue streams.
Summers also brings nearly seven years of sales experience to the role.
He was a three-year member (2012-14) of the Utah State football program, earning academic all-conference accolades on three occasions and receiving his bachelor's degree in 2014. Before USU, he spent one season at Snow College.
