U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colorado – Utah State's golf team shot an opening round 1-under 287 and is tied for third after 18 holes at the United States Air Force Academy-hosted Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational held here at the Eisenhower Golf Club – Blue Course.
Idaho leads the 23-team field with a 5-under 283. California Baptist's Jared Abercrombie and Utah Valley's Paxton Maxwell are tied for first individually at 4-under 68.
Utah State senior
Luis Cantu carded an opening round 2-under 70 and is tied for eighth after scoring five birdies and three bogeys during his opening round. For Cantu, it is his ninth-career under-par round.
Sophomore
Noah Moody is tied for 14th at 1-under 71 for his first round under par this year and in his career. Sophomore
Toby Heider and freshman
Zach Skinner are tied for 36th as both players shot opening rounds of 1-over 73. Sophomore
Chase Goetschel is tied for 53rd for USU after shooting a 2-over 74 on Saturday.
Golfers will play 18 holes on Sunday with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m., on the Blue Course, while Monday's tee times will begin at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring will be available at
