ST. GEORGE, Utah - Utah State women's tennis opened its 2026 dual match season with a 4-3 victory over Utah Tech on Monday afternoon at the Trailblazer Tennis Courts.
 
Doubles 
The Aggies began the dual match season with a pair of victories at the second and third positions of doubles play to secure the match's opening point. At the No. 3 spot, sophomore Maria Paula Ramos Garcia and freshman Chahd Tourkhani combined for a 6-1 win over Utah Tech's Olivia Buston and Ilse Fernanda Elechiguerra Ortega. Freshmen Terezia Mlkva and Sabina Pintea then secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win at the second position over Tech's Cameron Hendrix and Nutsa Tsintsadze. At the top spot, senior Olivia Halvorsen and sophomore Natalie Paterova were tied, 5-5, before the match was abandoned.

Singles 
A trio of freshmen led USU in singles action to take the win. Tourkhani and Mlkva each recorded straight-set victories to put the Aggies up, 3-1. Tourkhani claims a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles over Tsintsadze while Mlkva recorded a 6-4, 6-4 win at the top spot of the lineup over Utah Tech's Mariana Zurita. At the second position, Pintea delivered the clinching point with a 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 win over Tech's Olivia Bustos. Playing matches to completion, the Trailblazers earned points at the third, fifth and sixth positions for the match's final tally.

Next Up
Utah State readies for a pair of matches in Salt Lake City, taking on Montana in a neutral-site match on Thursday, Jan. 29, at 4 p.m., before playing at Utah on Friday, Jan. 30, at 10 a.m.
