LOGAN, Utah – No. 23 Utah State gymnastics won three event titles and defeated Mountain West-foe San José State 195.050-194.675 here Friday night inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
Utah State improves to 4-1 on the season with the win, including 1-0 in MW competition, which is the best start to a season since the 2022 club also began the year with a 4-1 record.
Utah State began the meet on the vault and scored 48.925, followed by 48.925 on bars, 48.200 on beam and a season-high-tying 49.000 on floor. San José State scored 48.825 on vault, 48.400 on bars, 48.750 on beam and 48.700 on floor.
Junior Isabella Vater took top honors on floor (9.875), while junior Sydney Jelen tied for first on bars (9.850) with San José State's Samantha Macasu. Jelen also tied for first on beam (9.825) with sophomore teammate Kaylie Medrano (9.825).
Overall, Utah State posted five career-high and four more season-high scores during the meet.

"I'm really proud of our Aggies to get a win at home, especially with it being our first conference meet of the year. Obviously, we had some hiccups on beam, and you never want to have those, but to see our team bounce back and rally and finish strong on floor, I was really proud of them."
Rotation One – Vault (48.925)
Utah State opened the meet with 48.925 on vault. Freshman Alianna Valdez scored a career-high-tying 9.825 in the anchor spot to place second. Senior Chelsea Southam and freshman Anabelle Dewey tied for third with identical 9.800s. For Dewey, it was a career high vault score. Junior Mya Witte started the routine with 9.750, followed by another 9.750 from sophomore Lundyn VanderToolen. Junior Nyla Morabito also scored 9.750.

Rotation Two – Bars (48.925)
Utah State moved to bars for its second rotation and posted 48.925. Jelen tied for first on the event as she scored a career-high-tying 9.850 to start the rotation. Senior Avery Bibbey and VanderToolen tied for third with scores of 9.800. For Bibbey, it was a season-high bar score. Sophomore Olivia Orengo added 9.775 and Vater scored 9.700. Freshman Charley Laufer posted 9.525.

Rotation Three – Beam (48.200)
Moving to beam for its third rotation, Utah State scored 48.200 as it had to count a fall for the first time this season. Once again, Jelen got the Aggies going as she posted a season-best 9.825 to tie for first on the event with sophomore teammate Kaylie Medrano who also scored a season-best 9.825. Witte tied for third with 9.775 and Valdez scored 9.750.

Utah State finished the competition with a season-high-tying 49.000 on floor. Vater won the event with a career-high-tying 9.875. Dewey placed second with a career-high 9.850 and Orengo finished third with a season-high 9.825. Southam scored 9.725 and freshman Sienna Yelle scored 9.725.
