POCATELLO, Idaho – Utah State's men's cross country team scored a perfect 15 points to win the team title at Idaho State's Bengal Invitational on Friday, while the women's team placed second at the undulating Centennial Cross Country Course.
The meet featured Mountain Regional opponents in Weber State and Idaho State, along with a handful of runners from Central Wyoming College and an abundance of unattached runners. It was the second meeting of the three regional rivals this season, after the Aggies won both the men's and women's team titles at the Utah State Alumni Challenge last month.
Utah State's men's squad claimed a decisive victory in the 8k race, sweeping the top six collegiate spots. Junior
Jayden Holdsworth was the top collegiate finisher, leading the Aggies across the line in 24:53 to finish second overall. Senior
Michael Amitava Maiorano and sophomore
Omar Alsaidi followed in fourth and fifth place with times of 25:06 and 25:09, while sophomore
Stockton Stevens set a 25:11 personal best on the hilly course to take sixth. Senior
Bryce Hill was the final Aggie scorer, clocking a 25:12 to place seventh.
On the women's side, Weber State scored 19 points to take the team title, paced by Elin Hagelin, who finished first in the collegiate standings. The Aggies placed second with 52 points, led by freshman
Mia Taylor, who came across the line in ninth place, matching her personal best with an 18:50. Freshman
Reese Garnica crossed next with a personal best of her own, finishing in 18:59 for a 12th-place result. Junior
Jane Williams clocked a 19:07 to place 13
th ahead of sophomore
Taylor Palmer, who was 17
th with a 19:15. Junior
Carli Nelson ran a 19:32 to finish 21
st in her first career cross country race, rounding out the Aggies' five scorers.

The Aggies return home for their second home meet of the season, as they host Steve T. Reeder Memorial Invitational next Friday, Oct. 9.
